About Dr. Benjamin

From the Classroom to the Clinical Floor

Dr. Deloris Benjamin began her career as an educator — and quickly discovered that the most urgent threat to the learning environment was not curriculum gaps or funding shortfalls. It was safety. It was the physical, psychological, and institutional safety of the people inside the building.

That discovery led to more than a decade of research in crisis management, safety protocol, and school safety. Dr. Benjamin's research has been downloaded, cited, and built upon by academics and institutional leaders around the world, accumulating over 30,000 reads and continuing to shape safety policy in education settings.

When the data made clear that the same patterns of institutional violence, underreporting, and inadequate staff preparation that plague schools are present — at even higher rates — in healthcare environments, Dr. Benjamin made a decision: the framework that protects educators should protect nurses, social workers, and clinical staff too.
